ALDI in Melbourne Noise and Vibration Isolation of a Supermarket Loading Dock

The ALDI supermarket chain has established a site on Spencer Street in West Melbourne. As part of the project, a back-of-house loading bay was built where high vibration and noise levels are expected due to the frequent movement of goods and heavy equipment. Strict vibration isolation requirements were needed to ensure undisturbed operation. The engineers were looking for a solution that would not only fulfil the minimum requirements for sound and vibration damping, but would also remain stable in the long term, especially in view of the high loads caused by the heavy equipment in the loading zone.

The challenges

The challenge was to control the high vibration and noise levels caused by the frequent movement of heavy equipment and goods in the loading bay and to protect the surrounding area from the effects of the vibrations. The difficult operating conditions in a back-of-house environment required a solution that could both withstand the daily stresses and remain stable in the long term.

Sound insulation

The solution

AFM35 was chosen to provide an efficient and durable solution to the challenges of vibration and noise reduction. The material ensures complete decoupling of the loading bay from the surrounding structure. The concrete slab of the loading bay was laid directly onto the AFM35, which allowed for quick installation and minimised downtime. In total, an area of 1300 m² was laid, ensuring optimum protection of the loading bay from the effects of vibration and noise and having a positive long-term impact on both the operation and the neighbouring environment.
