Buers (AT). Getzner Werkstoffe has developed the spring and damper combination Isotop® DZE Railway specifically for use in train carriages. This product effectively protects the passenger area from vibrations caused by air-handling units and other fittings mounted on the vehicle body or roof. Isotop® DZE Railway will be unveiled for the first time at the "Railways Interior" trade fair from 14th to 15th November 2017 in Prague.

Isotop® DZE Railway is used on roof-top or underfloor air-handling units and other fittings to effectively reduce the propagation of structure-borne noise into passenger areas. The polyurethane materials Sylomer®, Sylodyn® or Sylodamp® are used in the stainless steel core of the Isotop® products. The spring and damper combination can be optimally tailored to the area of application to permanently reduce vibrations in loads of 50 to 1000 kilograms. "For the bearing of HVAC units, we can guarantee an insulating effect up to 12 dB higher than when using rubber-metal products," Thomas Gamsjäger, Product Manager at Getzner explains.

Resistant to weather effects

The use of different damping materials gives Isotop® DZE Railway a high load capacity of up to 5 g whether under compression or tension. It also has a low overall height of approximately 45 millimetres. Both the housing and the end-to-end stainless steel axle are made of 1.4302 stainless steel and prevent rupture when the element is subjected to strong horizontal forces such as sharp braking (emergency stop), cornering and wind load, or negative momentums such as breaks in sleepers. The PU materials from Getzner also exhibit lasting resistance to weather effects and extremely low settling behaviour, resulting in a much longer service life compared to rubber-metal elements. "Our materials are used in railway infrastructure, where a life expectancy of up to 50 years is required. We are able more or less to rule out brittleness or hardening with crack formation and undesirable settling," says Thomas Gamsjäger.
