OKGetzner launches new Sylomer® bearing for concrete stairs
Buers, Austria. Getzner Werkstoffe is introducing its new Sylomer® SB10 bearing for concrete stairs onto the market. With a rate of impact noise reduction of 31 dB, Getzner's solution represents an effective sound control measure for residential, commercial and industrial buildings, which is easy to install. The bearing can support flights of stairs weighing up to six metric tons.
Stairs often transmit disruptive noises into buildings. Impact noise occurs when people pass up and down the stairs, which then propagates via walls and ceilings to adjoining rooms. The new SB10 bearing for stairs from Getzner rectifies the problem. Easy to install and with a rate of impact noise reduction of 31 dB according to ISO 717-2, it represents a significantly superior sound protection solution compared to other products available on the market. The Sylomer® bearing elastically decouples flights of stairs from the rest of the building, which in turn reduces the transmission of vibrations responsible for causing noise. The sound control measure is suitable for all standard concrete staircases in residential, commercial and industrial buildings as well as for in-situ concrete and precast concrete stairs. “Sylomer® has proven its worth as a bearing for stairs for more than 30 years. The new SB10 bearing is a logical development of this technology and can withstand conventional stair flight loads over a six-metre span. The maximum permitted design load of this bearing (Vd) is 75 kN/m. Sound control is thus guaranteed across the entire load range,” explains Sebastian Wiederin, the responsible project manager at Getzner.
The bearing achieves the high rate of impact noise reduction with a thickness of just 12 millimetres. Quick and easy installation and the bearing's ability to even out small construction tolerances accelerate the construction work. The Sylomer® bearing enables a defined load transmission to the support structure to be achieved, which prevents concrete spalling. The elastic bearing is also proven to remain fully effective for years to come.
The SB10 bearing for stairs is available in four designs: SB10 S, SB10 I, SB10 L and SB10 Z. “The bearing material can be flexibly adapted to the specific dimensions. This is important in order to be able to even out the construction tolerances that inevitably occur. Sylomer® retains its elastic properties,” clarifies Sebastian Wiederin.
