New standards in airborne and impact noise protection: Meickl timber construction project in the Tyrol
In 2011, the Tyrol-based timber construction and carpentry company Raimund Meickl GmbH constructed a modern apartment building with solid wood panels to passive building standards. To reduce sound transmission in the building to a minimum, Getzner supplied a sound insulation solution that takes all the sound transmission paths into account.
In addition to the construction of an elastically suspended ceiling, Getzner also decoupled the flanking components - outer and inner walls - and the connecting elements with the elastic material Sylodyn®. To avoid sound bridges, special fasteners and decoupled screws developed for timber construction were used. Thanks to these fasteners, component separation achieves maximum effect - without compromising the load-bearing capacity of the structure. "Our solution makes it possible to work on the walls without decoupled facing formwork. This guarantees that the climate-regulating effect of the solid wood walls is retained," explains Hendrik Reichelt, Product Manager at Getzner. The result: the sound insulation solution ensures a minimum of sound transmission in the multi-storey timber construction.
The fact that all sound insulation requirements are met has been proven by measurements on the finished building. "These sound insulation values are the best I have ever measured in a timber construction", emphasizes Hans-Peter Buschbacher from the engineering office ssih, who is responsible for the sound measurement as an external auditor. Wood construction and carpentry entrepreneur Martin Meickl is also convinced: "All insulation measures work together excellently. This project is proof for the building industry that the results of Holzforschung Austria can also be implemented in practice".
The outstanding sound insulation values of the vibration insulation, together with the solid wood walls, contribute to an improved quality of living and thus to an increase in the value of the entire property.
