The company Getzner Werkstoffe GmbH in Bürs was founded in 1969, as part of the holding Getzner, Mutter & Cie. The idea of manufacturing polyurethane elastomers (PUR elastomers) was born in the research department of another one of the holding's subsidiaries. The artificial leather products manufactured by Getzner Textil were the point of origin for the activities, which then shifted to focus on the field of vibration isolation. This was the moment that Getzner Werkstoffe was born, under its first name of Getzner Chemie. The company has been manufacturing materials for vibration isolation and mitigation since 1975 and is the world market leader in this field.
From an early stage, the company began to work on the development and manufacturing of PUR elastomers. Thanks to the intense R&D work within the company, Getzner has developed specialized know-how and expertise which is unique in its field of business. Getzner quickly registered the materials Sylomer® and Sylodyn® as trademarks, and these two materials continue to form the backbone of the company's modern vibration isolation work today.
In the mid-1980s, the company founded its first subsidiary in Germany and began to develop its European distribution network. In the 1990s, offices were opened in Amman, Jordan and in Berlin, Germany. Getzner Werkstoffe obtained ISO 9001 certification and intensified its distribution activities in Asia, South America and Europe. Additional environmental certifications, i.e. ISO 14001 and EMAS, were obtained in 2000, and two years later the Japanese subsidiary was founded. Getzner's technological advantages were once again underlined by the further development of various Sylomer® materials. The company was then realigned strategically at the global level in 2005. Getzner Werkstoffe divided up the enterprise into Business Units, in order to bundle its know-how and expand its services. Getzner meets the growing demand for specialized consulting in the field of vibration isolation by providing individualized solutions.
Getzner Werkstoffe currently employs a workforce of 264, with a staff of some 173 at the company headquarters in Bürs. The company booked sales of EUR 52.3 million in 2009, with exports accounting for some 80% of sales. Getzner Werkstoffe now has a global distribution network in 35 countries, and branch offices in Germany, Jordan and Japan. In May 2008, the company opened its own production facilities in China.
